Leeds United's Noah Okafor protects the ball from Manchester United's Leny Yoro in the Premier League clash at their home ground. Match Summary Dominic Calvert-Lewin sees a first-half header ricochet off the upright. Aaronson puts the hosts ahead with a well-placed effort in the second half. Matheus Cunha equalises just three minutes later. Leeds continue their longest Premier League undefeated streak since 2001. Manchester United's disappointing recent struggles continued at Elland Road, but manager Ruben Amorim had Matheus Cunha to thank for the team avoiding even more disappointment against Leeds. The Everton loanee directed a first-period attempt against the post for the in-form home team before Brenden Aaronson finished superbly with a low, 62nd-minute effort. At that stage, Amorim was in the firing line after his side had been held by bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers at home earlier in the week. However, against a team who had two days less to prepare, Cunha levelled three minutes after the opener when he latched onto a pass from introduced the Dutchman and slid a finish underneath advancing Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri. It was only the Brazilian's fourth Premier League goal since his big-money summer move and came at a time when Amorim is without four key attacking players due to a mix of fitness issues and international duty. Not that you would expect the hosts to care about that given their own lack of preparation time. The Swiss attacker forced a full length save out of visiting goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a spectacular overhead kick, and visiting heads were in hands when the Slovenian striker, who is finding it hard to make an impact, turned Zirkzee's cut-back wide from close range. The goalscorer, who had a goal disallowed for offside much earlier in the contest, also blasted against a post in the dying moments. The draw prolongs the home side's unbeaten run to seven matches, their longest such streak since 2001, and takes them eight points clear of the drop zone. For the visitors though, it was yet another chance to move into fourth spot, albeit only for a short time, squandered. Manchester United Breakdown: The Manager's Side Struggle Again With the Africa Cup of Nations reaching its knockout phase, the United coach could be understood for hoping the involved countries make a pretty quick exit. Current injuries to skipper Bruno Fernandes and Three Lions star Mason Mount only exacerbated the impact the absence of other forwards is having on the team's options. It's not that the absent players are the answer to all of United's problems. After all, they were part of the side that suffered disappointing results earlier in the campaign. But without them, Amorim has few attacking options. He clearly does not have full faith in teenager Shea Lacey or the much more experienced Zirkzee, even though the Netherlands forward provided the through ball for Cunha's equaliser almost instantly after his arrival as a substitute. That leaves the Brazilian, who has now scored a small tally in recent outings, and others playing out of their preferred positions, alongside Benjamin Sesko. On this showing, the expensive frontman looks no better than previous struggling signings, lacking in confidence and conviction in front of goal. Sesko's failure to turn home the cross means it is now nine games without a goal for the new signing. Leeds United Breakdown: A Further Step Towards Safety After thrilling victories in their last few home games, the arrival of their fiercest rivals to home was a bit drab affair. True, there were instances of expected fervor, but the intimidating edge was not as pronounced as in previous encounters. Leeds' fans were more concerned about their side's struggle to get worthwhile possession in advanced areas for any prolonged period. The Calvert-Lewin header that clipped the post was an isolated moment of quality in a congested first half. It still felt as though Leeds were struggling when a mistake opened the door for the opener. For a short moment, Leeds' ecstatic fans thought they were about to secure a rare win against Manchester United. Nevertheless, there is a much bigger picture for Daniel Farke and Leeds to deal with. When they endured a poor run of form earlier in the campaign, many thought about the manager's future. Instead, he is now masterminding significant improvement. The task is not completed yet but step by step, the team are getting nearer to securing their top-flight status. Looking Ahead The Yorkshire club have a top-flight trip to Newcastle in midweek, followed by the start of their FA Cup campaign next weekend. Manchester United face a league trip to Turf Moor before also entering their cup journey with a Old Trafford tie.
